The .MOBI registry, mTLD, is working with standards bodies and leading mobile operators to formulate a set of guides for .MOBI operators, based on open web standards and a predicatable user experience. This means mobile users can browse to .MOBI domain names with confidence - no more endless scrolling or large image downloads. What if I'm unsuccessful?
All fees are non-refundable. If a .MOBI application is unsuccessful for any reason, the customer's Africa Registry account will be issued a domain credit, which they may use to apply for any other available .MOBI domain name.
Sunrise applications may require documentary evidence of the trade mark. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure they are eligible for a .MOBI domain name, and can provide any required documentary evidence. Refunds will not be given for applications with incorrect or incomplete information.
Sunrise Registrations
Limited Industry Sunrise
Note: As of May 21 2006 We are no longer accepting industry sunrise applications. You are still able to submit applications for the Trade Mark Sunrise and the Land Rush periods.
Trade Mark Sunrise
June 12th to September 22nd
All other trade mark holders can register their trade marks in .MOBI from June 12th, on a first-come, first-served basis. It is important to get your applications in before this date so we can submit your application as soon as the registry opens up for live registrations on June 12th.
All applications for the Trade Mark Sunrise period must also provide the following evidence to validate their claim to the requested domain name:
- Trademark name (must be three or more ASCII characters)
- Trademark identification number
- Date of Trademark application (this date must be before July 11th 2005)
- Date of granting of trademark
- Country of trademark registration
It is up to each applicant to ensure that the information provided is both complete and accurate. The registry will randomly verify a trade mark owner's documents during this period. Domain names must be identical to the trade mark or textual elements of the trade mark.
Land Rush Registrations
September 26th to October 10th
All other applicants can register their .MOBI domain name beginning August 28th. Competition for popular .MOBI domains is expected to be high during the 'land rush' period beginning on August 28th. It is important to apply before this date to have the best chance of securing your domain name.
General Registrations
October 11th Onwards
The 'general registration' period begins on October 11th. All .MOBI domain names submitted for registration during this period will be offered at a substantially discounted rate. We will be accepting General Registration MOBI applications shortly after the 'land rush' period begins.
Application requirements for .MOBI Domains
Technical Requirements
- A .MOBI domain name must have at least three characters.
- A .MOBI domain name may only contain the English-language letters A through Z, and the digits 0 through 9.
- It may contain hyphens, but hyphens cannot begin or end the domain name. Spaces and special characters are never permitted.
Legal Requirements
There are no geographical requirements or company requirements to register a .MOBI domain name.
Applicants must agree to follow the 'Switch On!' style guides provided by the registry. The guides contain a set of mandatory and recommended best practices for developing mobile content and services, and compliance with these guides will be periodically checked by the registry.
